Overview

This is an OSS Academy® Crisis Intervention Response online training course offered for Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

This course is designed to review and update the key crisis intervention concepts, techniques, and communication skills you may have received in training or practical street experience.

Responding officers have seen the need over the past several years to improve first responder skills regarding crisis intervention. In part this is due to the number and frequency of service calls where officers find victims, relatives, and offenders in an emotional or mind-altering induced crisis.

This course was created to provide first responders with an understanding of some of the types of crimes they will encounter in their communities as well as the process for their investigation. Our academy staff is especially grateful to the law enforcement and corrections professionals that contributed to the development of this important course.

Please note, the entire course, final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive four (4) hours of course credit.

NOTE: This is not the CIT Update #3843 (TCOLE) course. No provider of training offers the #3843 course online. The #3843 course must be completed in an instructor-led format. You are important to us, if you are trying to locate the instructor-led course, contact the OSS Academy® Training Coordinator by phone at 281-288-9190 (Ext. 205) or online at Contact OSS Academy®.

Cultural Challenges Among Genders (TCOLE)
Long Course Description

Overview
This is a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) elective Cultural Challenges Among Genders online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

Men and women literally live in parallel, but different, worlds.
-Deborah Tannon

The movement toward more egalitarian relationships between men and women has had a major impact on our cultural patterns of behavior, even though our society’s patriarchal view still has tremendous influence on gender perceptions and roles. For example, most all cultures treat boys and girls differently from birth. Because of this cultural diversity, the different genders tend to have different experiences, expectations, worldviews, and interests.

Awareness of gender diversities can help us understand why men and women often see things differently, and avert possible miscommunications as a result of these natural and societal differences.

Please note, the entire course final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive one (1) hour of course credit.

Price (Shown in U.S. Dollars)

Overview
This is a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Cultural Challenges Among Generations online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

Every generation is influenced by the economic, political, and social events of their respective eras. From the Great Depression to the civil rights movement, from the inception of the television to advanced computer technologies, all have affected they way we work, play, and live. Understanding the differences among the generations can be helpful to officers.

A generation is a group of people within a society delineated by age boundaries. Researchers refer to this as a generational cohort, defining these as a set of peers, rather than a specific family generation. People in a cohort share similar experiences, values, and attitudes. These carry over from the formative years to work-related issues.
Please note, the entire course final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive one (1) hour of course credit.

In the law enforcement workplace, valuing diversity means creating a workplace that respects and includes differences, unique contributions that individuals with varying differences can make, and working to create an environment that maximizes the potential of employees, while not diminishing accomplishment of the mission.

Overview

This is an OSS Academy® Cybercrime Investigations online training course offered for Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

NOTE: This is not the Cybercrime Investigator Certification #3210 (TCOLE) course. OSS Academy does not currently offer the #3210 course. This is not a TCOLE accredited course.

Cybercrime is an emerging trend that is rapidly growing in scope and frequency. Worldwide, this type of crime is the leading means for fraud. Most officers are not prepared to deal with cybercrime due to the complex and intricate nature of the investigations, as well as the rapid advancement of new technology. Our society continues to become more and more plugged in, and the public expects law enforcement to keep pace with how new technology affects the investigative process, and by extension, crime in general.

Topics to be covered include many aspects of cybercrime with the understanding that as the technology progresses, so do the methods by which cyber criminals ply their trade. This course is designed to get the student to think outside of the box and to seek further education through attendance of specialized courses. A cybercrime investigator may focus on a specific area after learning basic theory and procedures. This course provides a solid foundation from which to build your techniques, develop an understanding of digital evidence, and acquire the tools and processes necessary for consistent results.

This course was created to provide peace officers with an understanding of some of the types of crimes they will encounter in their communities as well as the process for their investigation. Our academy staff is especially grateful to the law enforcement and corrections professionals that contributed to the development of this important course.

Please note, the entire course, final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive thirty (30) hours of course credit.

Enforcement officers are in daily contact with all types of people. Considering that nearly 10% of the U.S. population has some sort hearing loss, it is reasonable to assume that some of those contacts would be with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing, especially with the baby boomers reaching their senior years. According to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), people who are deaf or hard of hearing should receive the same services provided to the other 90% of the population. This means that officers interacting with these individuals should reasonably accommodate their communications needs.

This course is intended for Peace Officers who may come in contact with individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. The content of this course intentionally goes beyond mere traffic stops interactions.

Overview

This is an OSS Academy® Defensive & Distracted Driving for Law Enforcement online training course offered for Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

One of the major challenges faced by responsible local law enforcement executives and risk managers is losses caused during vehicle operations by employees in general, and law enforcement officers in particular. By far, the largest number of insurance claims filed against enforcement agencies is automobile claims, to say nothing of injuries and loss of life. We are not talking about damages and lives ruined during such high risk activities such as vehicle pursuits. Rather, our concern is for such activities as the … collision in the department parking lot, failure to yield the right of way, driving without emergency signaling equipment during response calls, intersection collisions, foul weather driving, and distracted driving activities.

This course provides officers and staff with proactive knowledge and tactics applicable to everyday vehicle operations. The goal of this course is to reduce incidences of vehicular collisions, lives lost, time away from the job, losses resulting from damaged equipment, and ruined careers.

Please note, the entire course final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive two (2) hours of course credit.
