This is an OSS Academy® Crime Scene Management online training course offered for Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.
You are dispatched to a shots fired call at 2:00 a.m. You arrive at the scene and observe the lights are on at the residence, and the front door is open. You cautiously approach the open front door, and are able to observe a body lying on the floor in a pool of blood with what is obviously a fatal head wound. Your backup arrives, and together you search the residence and determine there is no one else present. Would you and your partner know how to safely clear the scene while being mindful of the need to preserve the evidence it contains? Would you know what you contaminated, disturbed or moved, and can you document it? Would you know how to establish a proper ingress/egress path for other responders to follow? This course will answer these and many more questions about managing a major crime scene resulting in the successful apprehension and prosecution of an offender.

The movement toward more egalitarian relationships between men and women has had a major impact on our cultural patterns of behavior, even though our society’s patriarchal view still has tremendous influence on gender perceptions and roles. For example, most all cultures treat boys and girls differently from birth. Because of this cultural diversity, the different genders tend to have different experiences, expectations, worldviews, and interests.
Awareness of gender diversities can help us understand why men and women often see things differently, and avert possible miscommunications as a result of these natural and societal differences.

Overview
This is an OSS Academy® Hostage & Barricaded Suspects online training course offered for Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.
When the actions of a violent or disturbed individual result in a crisis situation, law enforcement personnel are often forced to react in a high risk environment where the subject may be barricaded, has taken hostages, or is threatening suicide. Officers won't usually know what's inside the barricaded area, if there are firearms or explosives indicated, or the condition of the individuals involved. Given these challenges, first responders must be able to quickly assess the situation, contain the problem, secure the area, evaluate the threat to hostages or bystanders, call in specialized units as necessary, and be ready to react at any time during the response - a situation that could last for hours. Additionally, negotiators must engage the barricaded individual with the advantage of real-time information. This course provides officers and supervisors with basic response procedures and tactics for such challenging events.
