Overview
This is an OSS Academy® Bomb Threat Response online training course offered for Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

Bomb threats and bombings have become a reality in today’s world. The dilemma for law enforcement agencies is that they seldom know who is calling in the threat, or indeed if the threat is valid. Is it a student calling a threat into a school because he wasn’t prepared to take a test that day, or a student calling in a threat because they are a sociopath and frustrated and they actually want to destroy the school, or worse, injure other students? Is it someone calling in a bomb threat because they think it will be a fun prank, or is it someone who actually intends to halt the operations of a place of business or an organization, or even injure innocent people?

Please note, the entire course, final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive one (1) hour of course credit.

Overview
This is an OSS Academy® Criminal Intelligence online training course offered for Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

Many federal, state, and local enforcement agencies are implementing an Intelligence-Led Policing (ILP) philosophy, which focuses on the accurate collection, analysis, and dissemination of information to both their own agency members and other consumers. Although Criminal Intelligence (CI) is part of this approach, CI is not the only product produced.
Officers performing their daily functions typically collect, review, and disseminate information each day, and this is only one step removed from using this data as part of an effective intelligence cycle. This course brings into clearer focus on how intelligence-led programs improve employee and agency performance while participating in intelligence sharing with other enforcement agencies.

Please note, the entire course final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive one (1) hour of course credit.

Overview
This is an OSS Academy® Criminal Investigations online training course offered for Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

Criminal investigations often begin at the location(s) where the crime was committed. Criminal investigators must be able to identify and collect items of evidentiary value left at the crime scene, in order to better piece together events surrounding the crime and to identify perpetrators and sometimes victims. These steps are often the most important efforts undertaken by patrol officers and investigators in efforts to identify, arrest, and successfully prosecute offenders. Failure of law enforcement agencies to establish an effective and efficient crime scene management system can have severe results and may even include civil or criminal charges against crime scene personnel. Therefore, it is essential that all officers and investigative personnel have a solid understanding of professionally accepted crime scene protocols, in order that their agency can take full advantage of today’s more sophisticated laboratory techniques and technologies. The basis for a successful and efficient crime scene investigation is within the grasp of any law enforcement agency, no matter the size.

Please note, the entire course final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive two (2) hours of course credit.

Cybercrime is an emerging trend that is rapidly growing in scope and frequency. Worldwide, this type of crime is the leading means for fraud. Most officers are not prepared to deal with cybercrime due to the complex and intricate nature of the investigations, as well as the rapid advancement of new technology. Our society continues to become more and more plugged in, and the public expects law enforcement to keep pace with how new technology affects the investigative process, and by extension, crime in general.

Topics to be covered include many aspects of cybercrime with the understanding that as the technology progresses, so do the methods by which cybercriminals ply their trade. This course is designed to get the student to think outside of the box and to seek further education through the attendance of specialized courses. A cybercrime investigator may focus on a specific area after learning basic theory and procedures. This course provides a solid foundation from which to build your techniques, develop an understanding of digital evidence, and acquire the tools and processes necessary for consistent results.

This course was created to provide peace officers with an understanding of some of the types of crimes they will encounter in their communities as well as the process for their investigation. Our academy staff is especially grateful to the law enforcement and corrections professionals that contributed to the development of this important course.

Please note, the entire course, final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive thirty (30) hours of course credit.
