This is the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) mandated Spanish for Law Enforcement (Intermediate) Distance #2110 (course equivalent to Spanish for Law Enforcement #2109) online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

This course is primarily designed to provide you with a working language capability to understand the meaning of Spanish words or phrases that could signal a threat, and to respond verbally in situations where one or more subjects need to be controlled for the safety of officers, the subjects, and would-be bystanders. After completion of this course you should be able to identify and define those spoken Spanish words and phrases contained in the Jump-Start Unit that may signal an attempt to harm you or others. In addition, you will receive instruction on speaking the Spanish words and phrases in the Jump-Start Unit that can be used to control an offender perceived to be a danger to you or others. Use of the course materials or other similar materials will enable you to find and use key Spanish phrases or words that can inform a person about circumstances or issues you experienced during the course of duty.

In this course, we discussed the multiple bills passed by the 87th Legislature, and decisions the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court that impact Texas Peace Officers, city and county officials, judges, prosecutors, and emergency responders, as well as those of us living and working in Texas. Some of these changes are very dynamic, including the many facets of the Constitutional Carry laws, others directly impact how peace officers go about their duties. There were administrative alterations, changes to existing statutes, and new code requirements, as well as several new laws that are at odds with one another. Important case laws handed down by the US 5th Circuit and U.S. Supreme Court, are outlined and full copies of these decisions are provided to you for study and download.

The resulting new laws, administrative changes, and changes to existing statutes that came out of the 87th Texas Legislative Session will have an impact on Texas Law Enforcement. Unless otherwise noted, Texas Legislative Bills go into effect on September 1, 2021.
