Overview
This is a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Less Lethal Techniques online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.
Use of force is one of the most critical issues facing law enforcement professionals today. Too frequently officers are injured, and some killed, while responding to calls. Others are killed or injured, because they hesitate to act decisively in the face of perceived danger. All too often this life threatening hesitation is caused by officers having to stop and think of the fundamentals of force, their options, and the consequences of their action.
This course reviews the critical fundamentals of the use of less-lethal force as part of a force continuum. Although it is not a requirement for taking this course, we recommend you consider taking the Use of Force and Deadly Force course offered in our course library, as the two are complementary. This less-lethal course briefly reviews some of the more critical data contained in the use of force course.
Please note, the entire course final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive one (1) hour of course credit.

Overview
This is a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Lineups & Eyewitness Identification online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.
Few events associated with law enforcement are more tragic for all concerned than an officer-involved shooting. This is particularly true when the shooting results in a fatality. Suicide by cop, or officer assisted suicide, as it is more formally labeled, is a serious problem that needs to be understood by officers, if such events - and their consequences - are to be minimized. This course will help you gain a fuller understanding of this devastating phenomenon, and provide you with the information necessary to recognize these situations as they develop, so you can facilitate an alternative action plan and response, when practical.
Please note, the entire course final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive two (2) hours of course credit.

Overview
This is a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Mentally Ill Response online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.
Police officers frequently encounter people with mental illness. Approximately five percent of U.S. residents have a serious mental illness, and ten to fifteen percent of jailed people have severe mental illness. An estimated seven percent of police contacts in jurisdictions with 100,000 or more people involve the mentally ill.
A three-city study found that ninety-two percent of patrol officers had at least one encounter with a mentally ill person in crisis in the previous month, and officers averaged six such encounters per month. The Lincoln (Nebraska) Police Department found that it handled over 1,500 mental health investigation cases in 2002, and that it spent more time on these cases than on injury traffic accidents, burglaries, or felony assaults. The New York City Police Department responds to about 150,000 emotionally disturbed persons calls per year.
Mentally ill response calls can be a tedious and potentially dangerous process. Many factors are taken into consideration when approaching these individuals. This course details the verbal, environmental, and behavioral cues that should be considered when responding to calls for service.
Please note, the entire course final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive one (1) hour of course credit.

Overview
This Community Safety (NAPPI) elective online Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) training course is offered by OSS Academy® for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.
When out in the community, the first thing you want to ask yourself is, “How am I going to stay safe today?” This is the ultimate “I” statement! Most people tend to minimize the risk to themselves either because nothing has ever gone wrong, or they think they have enough experience to anticipate a problem.
The information in this module provides a framework to keep you safer in the community and more effective when facing unique, unexpected, challenging, difficult, or even dangerous situations. We will discuss ways to anticipate problems and predict violence as well as how to create a safer community/home visit from start to finish. As we explore the content of this course, take note of the different ways you can keep yourself safe each and every day.
Has an individual ever threatened you? How did you react? Is there anything you would have done differently to handle the situation more effectively?
Many of us have been threatened at one time or another, but how did we know if the threat was real? There are some underlying theories about threats and threat assessment. This module provides insight into how to assess the credibility of a threat. The goal is to provide a framework to keep you safer and more effective when facing unique, unexpected, challenging, difficult, or even dangerous situations.
Please note, the entire NAPPI Community Safety Package course, including final exam(s) and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive four (4) hours of course credit.
