Overview
This is the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) mandated Crisis Communications for Emergency Telecommunicators #2120 online training course offered for Texas Telecommunicators.

The Crisis Communications course is designed to provide additional information required to become a more proficient emergency telecommunicator. This course is one of the required courses for obtaining an Intermediate Certificate.

Today, approximately 85% of the U.S. is covered by a 9-1-1 system. It is estimated that 99% of the adults living in these covered regions are aware that they should dial “9-1-1” in the event of a crisis situation or medical emergency. Emergency telecommunicators (also referred to as “dispatchers”) are experiencing an ever-increasing volume of calls and many of those calls involving some type of critical incident. Various factors such as a rise in domestic violence and other troubling issues, “post 9/11”, higher public expectations, and more have caused this increase.

Please note, the entire course (including any applicable course parts), final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive twenty-four (24) hours of course credit.

An arrestee's desire to escape, his or her use of alcohol or drugs, embarrassment, or other emotional issues, can make the transport task difficult and extremely dangerous. In this course you are presented with helpful techniques to decrease the dangers of prisoner movement.

Suicide Detection & Prevention in Jails #3501 (TCOLE)
Long Course Description

Course Number
3501
Price (Shown in U.S. Dollars)
45.00

Overview
This is the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) mandated Suicide Detention & Prevention in Jails #3501 course offered in an online training format for Texas Jailers.

Suicide is often the single most common cause of death in correctional settings. Each year in Texas, jails average 34 to 60 or more inmate suicides while in the custody of a local jail. This course was created to provide county corrections officers with an understanding of offenders with mental impairments, suicidal behavior, and methods for detection and prevention of suicide. Suicide prevention should begin at arrest, and continue throughout the individual's stay in a correctional facility. Experience has shown that many jail suicides can be averted with implementation of a comprehensive prevention program that includes staff training, intake screening, communication between staff, appropriate and safe housing, frequent observation, prompt intervention, and human interaction between staff and inmates. The State of Texas recognizes that the prevention of suicide by inmates is a critical issue to be addressed in all correctional facilities by the correctional staff, because suicide continues to be a leading cause of death within jails, prisons, and juvenile facilities throughout the country.

Please note, the entire course (including any applicable course parts), final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive eight (8) hours of course credit.

Overview

This is an OSS Academy® Suicide Prevention in Police Lockups online training course offered for Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.

Suicide is often the single most common cause of death in police lockups, and when it occurs, responsible officers are often shocked and surprised. In many police departments with holding cells or city detention facilities, officers have received little or no training in how to supervise and monitor detainees. Making matters worse, detainees are often held in cells or detention areas that do not meet state detention standards or even local health and safety codes. What's more, those that are designated to watch detainees are often a multi-tasking desk sergeant, or an injured officer, that … checks on detainees every now and then or when they call me. This course provides officers with an awareness of the serious, life threatening, and career damaging  threat posed by suicidal individuals while being temporarily detained in your lockup. It discusses how to recognize the signs of pending suicide, and actions you can take to manage the threat, save lives, and reduce your personal and agency liability.

Please note, the entire course final exam(s), and course evaluation(s) must be completed in order to receive two (2) hours of course credit.
