This is a Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Shotgun on Patrol Tactics online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.
Prior to the U.S. becoming a country, the tactical shotgun was a favorite weapon of law enforcement. It can deliver a variety of munitions from less-lethal to the most deadly available to the average peace officer. It is easy to master and cost effective. Yet, for most agencies, the shotgun is the most under-utilized tool available to officers. Why? Because most officers receive only minimum training on its importance and use.
This course will guide officers and managers through the versatility of the shotgun, selection of equipment, a better understanding of munitions and their various applications, and tactical considerations that can bring all of these elements into clearer focus. Some advanced weapons management is included as well.

This is the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) mandated Spanish for Law Enforcement (Intermediate) Distance #2110 (course equivalent to Spanish for Law Enforcement #2109) online training course offered for Texas Peace Officers, Jailers, and Telecommunicators.
This course is primarily designed to provide you with a working language capability to understand the meaning of Spanish words or phrases that could signal a threat, and to respond verbally in situations where one or more subjects need to be controlled for the safety of officers, the subjects, and would-be bystanders. After completion of this course you should be able to identify and define those spoken Spanish words and phrases contained in the Jump-Start Unit that may signal an attempt to harm you or others. In addition, you will receive instruction on speaking the Spanish words and phrases in the Jump-Start Unit that can be used to control an offender perceived to be a danger to you or others. Use of the course materials or other similar materials will enable you to find and use key Spanish phrases or words that can inform a person about circumstances or issues you experienced during the course of duty.

When you ask someone a question, how do you know if they are telling the truth? Research indicates most people, including law enforcement officers and investigators, are not able to tell when people are being deceptive.
This course provides the background and basic process of Statement Analysis, also known as SCAN. It includes tools to aid in making an assessment of the truthfulness of a person’s verbal and written statements, and a Statement Analysis Checklist for your future use when analyzing verbal and written statements.
A companion course to this series is Street Level Interviewing, which focuses on verbal tactics for eliciting the truth.

Most interviews are conducted in a room specifically designed for interviewing. Patrol officers and investigators on the street often have to conduct interviews in a public environment with a countless number of distractions that can prevent a successful outcome.
This is the second course of a two part series. The first course, Statement Analysis, focused on linguistic patterns and words that indicate deception. This course will focus on techniques for interviewing that will assist the officer in determining deceit, and in eliciting truthful responses.

In recent months, suicide bombings have increased significantly in the Middle East, especially in Iraq and Afghanistan. Suicide is often the single most common cause of death in correctional settings. Each year in Texas, jails average 34 to 60 or more inmate suicides while in the custody of a local jail. This course was created to provide county corrections officers with an understanding of offenders with mental impairments, suicidal behavior, and methods for detection and prevention of suicide. Suicide prevention should begin at arrest, and continue throughout the individual's stay in a correctional facility. Experience has shown that many jail suicides can be averted with implementation of a comprehensive prevention program that includes staff training, intake screening, communication between staff, appropriate and safe housing, frequent observation, prompt intervention, and human interaction between staff and inmates. The State of Texas recognizes that the prevention of suicide by inmates is a critical issue to be addressed in all correctional facilities by the correctional staff, because suicide continues to be a leading cause of death within jails, prisons, and juvenile facilities throughout the country.
